How long does the seal last once applied?
Properly applied butyl tape creates a seal that lasts 5-10 years depending on UV exposure and substrate movement. For exterior applications with direct sun exposure, we recommend covering the tape with paint or flashing for maximum longevity.
Does it work on wet surfaces?
For best results, surfaces should be clean and dry before application. Butyl tape has some tolerance for dampness but will not adhere properly to standing water or heavily saturated surfaces. Emergency repairs in rain are possible but bond strength improves significantly on dry substrates.
What is the shelf life of unused rolls?
Store unused rolls in cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight. Keep the release liner intact until ready to use, and store the rolls flat to prevent deformation of the butyl compound.
